Over the summer, Heather Hilton will be moving from Winter Springs, Florida, to begin her post as principal at Sam Houston Elementary – a K-3 school serving 500 students in the Maryville City school district. Hilton replaces longtime Principal Scott Blevins, who will be leaving school-level administration to work in a part-time capacity in the district office, while pursuing private sector opportunities.
“We are looking forward to having Mrs. Hilton’s experience on our leadership team and her passion for students and teachers at Sam Houston,” said Dr. Winstead, Director of Schools. “We expect a seamless transition and feel confident that parents and the community will appreciate the vast experience and professionalism Mrs. Hilton brings to this important leadership role.”
Coming to Maryville with over twenty years of teaching and administrative experience, Mrs. Hilton started her career as a science teacher and quickly moved into administration – serving as a principal or assistant principal for the past fourteen years. Since 2015, she has been the principal at East River High School in Orlando, Florida.
Hilton earned a B.S. in Biology at Trinity University in San Antonio, followed by a Masters from the same university. Her education record also includes a second master’s degree, with principal certification, from Southwest Texas State.
As part of the interview process, Mrs. Hilton expressed how her experiences have informed her personal understanding of the importance of a committed community to the success of a school. With Maryville’s long history of public support for education and high expectations for educational excellence, Mrs. Hilton’s philosophy is a perfect fit for our students, teachers, and community of education stakeholders.
Mrs. Hilton will relocate with her husband and daughter and looks forward to regular visits from her stepson Michael, an attorney in central Florida. Commenting on her decision to join the leadership team in Maryville, Hilton said, “It is an honor to be selected as the next leader at Sam Houston Elementary. I am excited to join this dynamic school district and look forward to serving in the community.”
Principal Hilton’s employment with the Maryville City Schools will begin in mid-June, but she will be meeting with her new faculty and staff several times over the weeks ahead. Please join us in welcoming Heather Hilton and her family to Maryville.
