Maryville City Schools proudly shares the news that two MHS students were named National Merit semifinalists for the 2016-17 school year.
Andrew M. Ashmore and Matthew C. Cone will advance to the Finalist level of competition, making them eligible for a National Merit Scholarship.
Cone will attend Duke University, where he plans to study political science, with aspirations in the legal profession. Ashmore hopes to continue his education in studies culminating in a career in patent law.
While in high school, both students have been very busy. Matthew Cone earned academic letters in math and social studies, served as Student Council president for two years, and was both a Maryville Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. Athletic endeavors included football and soccer.
Andrew Ashmore participated in Youth Leadership Blount, member and business manager of the Blount County Robotics Team, an accomplished clarinetist performing with the MHS Chamber Orchestra and attending the Governor's School of the Arts. He was also the foreperson and founding juror for the Blount County Youth Court.
Congratulations and best wishes to these accomplished scholars.
