    RATIONALE

    This working document was conceptualized and created with direction from the Board of Education, the experience of our Leadership Team, and the work of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee formed to manage the creation, review and implementation process. Collectively we have borrowed from goals and long-term directions set by the Board and from our experience in identifying and addressing the most urgent and important needs in our schools.  As this plan evolves and shapes our decisions and our future, our intention is to systematically involve our stakeholders and continue to solicit both their input and support. 

    Following the International Center for Leadership in Education® conference (Nashville, TN) attended by certified staff and school/district leaders in the summer of 2011, the strategic planning team reorganized the student-focused goals and objectives around the Learning Criteria® and incorporated the Rigor/Relevance Framework® model.  While priorities set as part of the original planning process started in 2008 remain largely unchanged, the ways in which they are placed, stated or measured may be different.  As such, the planning team believes these changes will be especially helpful for internal stakeholders who are continually working to tie school and classroom goals to district goals and for external stakeholders who will appreciate the streamlined approach and ability to better follow progress through specific and understandable measurable objectives.
