Thank you for your interest in the 2nd annual Edcamp East Tennessee. This year's event will be hosted by Maryville City Schools @ Maryville High School in Maryville, Tennessee.
What to Expect:
If you’ve never attended an Edcamp before, now’s the time. Edcamp is a participant-driven "un- conference" where the teachers do the talking. There are no boring presentations to sit through and no vendor-driven infomercials, only groups of PK-12 teachers learning from each other on topics generated and selected by other teachers.
Who Can Attend?
Edcamp ETN is open to any educator who wants to attend (registration required – http://bitly.com/edcampetn19). Maryville City teachers will receive self-directed in-service credit for attending. Participants from other districts may be eligible for CEU's, and proof of attendance can be provided if requested.
What's the cost?
Nada. Zip. Zilch. Registration is free, parking is free, and some light snacks will be provided.
What do I need to bring?
Yourself and probably a laptop, tablet, or other digital device. If you’re into Twitter, info will be posted from @EdcampETN with #EdcampETN.
Schedule:
8:30-9:00 – Arrive, register, and “build the board” (propose session topics)
9:00-9:30 – Session 1
9:35-10:05 – Session 2
10:10-10:40 – Session 3
10:45-11:15 – Session 4
11:15-11:30 – Closing and door prizes
If you want to extend conversations or if you’re sticking around for MCS afternoon workshops, there will be food trucks on site for lunch from 11:30 until afternoon sessions start at 12:30.
Ummm.... Really... what will this look like?
If you’re worried about an “un-conference” being chaotic, there is a little chaos – we like to think of it as “productive struggle” ☺ -- but there is definitely a method to the madness. When you register, we will have several big ideas written on large sheets of paper spread around the room... Things like “Technology,” “Administration,” “In the Classroom,” “STEM,” etc. If there are any topics you want to discuss or learn about, you’ll write them on a sticky note and post it on the paper it fits with best. We’ll compile these notes until 8:50, when they’ll be posted to edcampetn.org as a schedule for the day. For the first session, pick a topic that looks interesting to you and head that way. Each session will have a facilitator to help if needed, as well as a note-taker to take notes on a shared document that all participants will have access to. If the session starts and it’s not what you expected – get up and leave! Edcamp is here to fill your needs. If you’re not getting what you need in a session, “vote with your feet” by getting up and finding another session. NO ONE’S FEELINGS WILL BE HURT—we promise! After each session, there will be a 5 minute break to pick your next session, take a restroom break, or re-visit the snacks.
Type-A Goals:
Really... who doesn’t like goals? For Edcamp ETN, we’d like each participant to try to do the following:
• Attend at least one session where you feel like you’re an expert in the topic
• Attend at least one session where you feel like you’re a newbie in the topic
• Talk at least once in your first session
