Securly (New features available next week)

As announced earlier,  we are partnering with Securly, a cloud-based web filter that currently serves 1 out of every 10 school districts in the United States.  Both Securly and Maryville schools share your priority of safety for your family.  Starting with internet filtering, we are helping students learn more about responsible use and safety on the web.

REVIEW THIS VIDEO for more information about INTERNET SAFETY, PRIVACY, and SECURITY,  as part of our Digital Citizenship initiative (DC9).

NEW NEXT WEEK:  A new parent portal will allow you to stay up-to-date with your child's online activity at school, including snapshots of their search history and sites visited.  Beginning  next week,  parents will start to receive weekly emails about their students online behavior.  Some emails will begin arriving on Monday, August 20, but all parents with a registered email account will see emails no later than August 28th.   After this roll-out period, you should expect to receive emails on Monday or Tuesday of each week.

When you receive your first Parent Portal email, there will be an overview of your student's online activity and a link to the Securly Parent Portal website and instructions for downloading the optional (but very handy!) Securly app.   In future parent updates, we will provide more information about using Securly.   We look forward to working with you to explore the many features of this robust product and not only help create healthy online habits, but define a new level of security for your online users.

UNSUBSCRIBE:   If you do NOT wish to receive these parent portal emails, simply unsubscribe at the bottom of the email.  It says "Unsubscribe to these reports instantly."

HELP:  If you have trouble with the Securly platform, visit the parent help forum online
for helpful advice.

As most of you are aware, we have used SchoolMessenger  for several years as our vendor for outbound messaging to parents, via email and voicemail.  Over the next two weeks we will transition to a new service provider called SwiftK12.  While this switch offers many benefits to us internally, it will likely be transparent to families receiving calls and email communication.

However, there is one feature you will want to be aware of.  Since SwiftK12 resides in PowerSchool (our student information system), you can now see your contact information and review messages sent through the system to your contacts.

Click on the SwiftK12 button on the upper-left corner of your PowerSchool parent portal.

In addition, you may want to know that calls from your school will come from specific telephone numbers.  When you call that number back, you can hear the message again.  This does not apply to automated calls such as lunch balances and absence alerts.  Following are the phone numbers tied to each school:

  • District  (865)448-5877
  • MHS       (865)448-5879
  • MJHS     (865)444-8275
  • CGIS       (865)444-8278
  • MRIS       (865)448-5880
  • FHE         (865)444-8277
  • JSE         (865)448-5878
