Supporters of Maryville City Schools sparkled and shined during the 22nd Starlight Gala on Friday at the Hilton Knoxville Airport,

The gala, put on by the Maryville City Schools Foundation, aims to raise money for the system via ticket sales and auctions, both live and silent. During the event’s cocktail hour, attendees could participate in a few other fundraisers.

MCSF Executive Director Mandi Wolfe said each individual school put together the silent auction items. MCSF will match up to $5,000 for what the individual schools raised. Everything else, she said, goes straight back into programming.

“Tonight is a night of celebration for our community,” said gala chair Whitney Davis.

Over at the Hilton Knoxville Airport, attendees were treated to a cocktail hour to enjoy some libations and appetizers while chatting and perusing the auction items. Orchestra students provided music while folks mingled.

When the time for dinner came, MCS band students made the announcement with a drumline that performed in the auction area before leading attendees into the dining area.

After dinner, it was time to give out the Starlight Gala Awards.

According to a press release from the MCSF, the awards highlight “exceptional individuals and organizations that have made a lasting impact on education and the Maryville community.”

This year, the awards went to:

Matt Alexander, Distinguished Alumni

Charles West, Distinguished Service

Chief Tony Crisp, MPD, Foundation Partnership

The night ended with a live auction and pledges, all to support the MCS system.
